Create This Book 2: Episode 2

Today I tackle for more prompts in Create This Book 2 by Moriah Elizabeth: Create Activity, Create Handprints, Create String Decor, Create a Design

Create Activity

For the Create Activity prompt in my Create This Book 2 art journal, I decided to take a nostalgic approach and create a page inspired by old Polaroid photos. I chose three memories from different activities I enjoyed growing up: playing in the snow, performing in a dance costume, and posing during a soccer game. Each mini Polaroid got its own themed background, including retro orange waves for my dance photo, pink and blue snowflakes for the snow day memory, and green soccer ball doodles for my short-lived soccer era. This prompt became a fun walk down memory lane and a creative way to turn personal photos into sketchbook inspiration. It’s a great art prompt idea for anyone who wants to combine memory keeping, simple illustrations, and scrapbook-style art journaling.

Create Handprints

For the Create Handprints prompt, I brought my daughters into the project and used their handprints as the foundation for a colorful floral art page. Their tiny painted handprints became part of the design, blending into a garden full of flowers and leaves instead of standing out on their own. I filled the page with layered petals, greenery, and smaller flower details to make the whole spread feel bright, busy, and full of life. This page ended up being more than just a Create This Book 2 prompt β€” it became a sweet keepsake of my kids at this stage in their lives. It’s a perfect family art project, handprint craft idea, or mixed media sketchbook page for anyone who wants to preserve a memory in a creative and meaningful way.

Create String Decor

For the Create String Decor prompt, I combined crochet, paint, and mixed media to make a playful Valentine’s Day-inspired art journal page. I crocheted small hearts using yarn, then painted them and pressed them onto the page like handmade stamps. Once the heart shapes were stamped in pink, red, and yellow, they started to look like balloons, so I added real thread as balloon strings to connect the design back to the prompt. The process got very messy with glue, yarn, and Mod Podge, but that made it even more fun. This prompt is a great example of using unusual art supplies in a sketchbook and turning fiber arts like crochet into a creative mixed media technique.

Create a Design

For the Create a Design prompt, I decided to redesign my channel logo instead of creating a fashion or room design. I experimented with several soft, pastel logo ideas, including my channel name inside a fluffy cloud, a cat sitting on a moon, and a refreshed version of my existing logo. This page involved a lot of trial and error with alcohol markers, acrylic markers, blending, outlines, white highlights, and cutting out the designs to arrange them in the book. Some attempts worked better than others, but the final page turned into a cute cotton-candy-colored collection of logo concepts. This prompt was a fun graphic design challenge and a reminder that sketchbooks are a great place to experiment, make mistakes, and develop creative branding ideas by hand.
