Create This Book 2: Episode 4

Today I complete FIVE prompts instead of four since a few of them are quick prompts today! Watch me tackle Create a Modified Character, Create Incompletion, Create Contrast, Create a Line, and Create a Re-purposing

Create a Modified Character

For the Create a Modified Character prompt, I reimagined four Disney princess-inspired characters with completely new color palettes while keeping their most recognizable features intact. Instead of changing their hair, skin tones, or silhouettes, I focused on transforming their outfits into fresh themed designs. Tiana became an autumn-inspired princess with warm orange and yellow leaf details, Belle received a deep red rose-covered winter dress, Moana was redesigned in lush green island colors, and Mulan got a bold pink-and-black punk rock makeover. This art prompt was a fun character design challenge because it pushed me to balance creativity with recognizability. It’s a great example of how changing colors, accessories, and small design details can completely refresh an iconic character while still keeping their personality clear.

Create Incompletion

The Create Incompletion prompt challenged me to leave a piece of art intentionally unfinished, which is surprisingly hard when you’re used to outlining and coloring everything. For this page, I created a pencil-only drawing featuring different types of lights, including a cozy lantern with a candle and a lightbulb chandelier. Because there was no color or ink, the focus stayed entirely on the sketch, shapes, and small design details. This prompt was a simple but interesting reminder that not every art journal page needs to be polished to feel complete. Sometimes an unfinished pencil drawing can still capture a cozy, creative idea and give the page a softer, more relaxed look.

Create Contrast

For the Create Contrast prompt, the goal was to show the high and low points of my day through art. I chose laundry as the low point because it feels like the never-ending chore with way too many steps, from washing to drying to folding to finally putting everything away. For the high point, I drew toast, because buttery toast is one of my favorite simple joys and a cozy part of my morning routine. This prompt turned into a small visual diary page about everyday life, comparing a boring household task with a comforting daily treat. It’s a great creative journaling idea for anyone who wants to turn ordinary moments into a meaningful sketchbook or art prompt page.

Create a Line

The Create a Line prompt asked me to decorate the page using one continuous line, which made this art challenge feel both spontaneous and restrictive. I went straight into the book without sketching first because I wanted to follow the prompt as closely as possible and avoid lifting my marker. I tried creating simple continuous line drawings inspired by things like flowers and a guitar, but the final result didn’t feel as exciting as some of the other pages. Even though this wasn’t my favorite prompt, it was still a useful creative exercise in loosening up, trusting the process, and making art without overplanning. One-line drawing prompts are a great way to practice flow, shape, and creative confidence.

Create a Re-purposing

The Create a Re-purposing prompt ended up being one of the most fun pages in this video. I used a Diet Mountain Dew cardboard box from the recycling and turned it into mixed media art by cutting out the mountain design, taping it into my sketchbook, and extending the landscape with markers and paint. I continued the mountain lines, added matching colors, and created sun rays so the cardboard blended into the page while still keeping parts of the original packaging visible. On the opposite page, I painted my own bright red version inspired by Code Red Mountain Dew, focusing on cherries and bold soda-label colors. This recycled art project was a great reminder that creative inspiration can come from everyday objects, even something as simple as a soda box. It’s a fun mixed media sketchbook idea for anyone interested in repurposed art, recycled crafts, or turning trash into colorful artwork.
