Crafting Through the Holidays Advent Calendar: Part 4/5
In part four of my Crafting Through the Holidays Art Skills advent calendar series, I opened five more surprise holiday craft projects. This episode included a nostalgic Perler bead Christmas ornament, a personalized llama and gnome painted rock, a tiny polka dot penguin portrait, a button wreath made with help from my daughter, and a sparkly diamond painting Santa. This set had a really fun mix of painting, beading, kid-friendly crafting, and relaxing holiday ornament projects.
Project 1: Perler Bead Christmas Ornament

The first project in this episode was a Perler bead Christmas ornament, and it immediately felt perfect for the holiday season. Perler beads, or ironing beads, bring back so many childhood craft memories, from carefully planning the design to placing every tiny bead on the pegboard and finally watching the iron melt everything together. This design looked like a classic Christmas ornament, the kind you might carefully unpack from storage and be warned not to break while hanging it on the tree. It was a simple but nostalgic holiday craft and a great beginner-friendly Christmas ornament project.
Project 2: Llama and Gnome Painted Rock

The second project was a painted rock featuring a llama and a gnome, and this one felt surprisingly personal. The llama immediately reminded me of my dad, whose favorite animal has always been a llama, while the gnome reminded me of my mom, who loves decorating with gnomes inside and outside the house. I used purple for the llama because it is my dad’s favorite color, then added blue and orange as a nod to the Florida Gators. The llama became Chrissy, and the gnome became Kip, with a cherry blossom detail inspired by one of my mom’s favorite flowers. This painted rock turned into a sweet family-inspired Christmas craft and one of the most meaningful projects in the episode.
Project 3: Polka Dot Penguin Portrait

The third mystery project was a mini penguin canvas, and I used it as the perfect chance to bring back my pink polka dot penguin from the previous episode. Instead of following the suggested penguin design exactly, I loosely sketched over the printed canvas and turned it into a tiny portrait of my own penguin character. The pink color instantly changed the whole mood of the piece, and the red polka dots made him look cute, even if they also looked a little questionable at first. Once the final details were added, the penguin had so much personality for such a tiny canvas. This was a fun miniature painting project and a cute way to continue developing an original holiday character.
Project 4: Button Wreath

The fourth project was a button wreath ornament, and it ended up being a sweet, simple craft with a special family moment. The project used green buttons threaded onto wire, shaped into a wreath, and finished with a ribbon bow. I tried to place the buttons in a “perfectly random” order, which is always harder than it sounds, and then my daughter came over to help add some buttons too. Since this project did not involve paint, it was a great one for her to join in on without creating too much mess. The finished button wreath is a classic handmade Christmas ornament and a great kid-friendly holiday craft idea.
Project 5: Diamond Painting Santa

The final project in this episode was a diamond painting Santa, and it was the perfect calm craft to end with. Diamond painting is so satisfying because the image slowly builds one tiny sparkling piece at a time. I started with the red diamonds since that was the largest section, and watching the color fill in made the ornament feel more festive with every step. This project was simple, repetitive, relaxing, and very sparkly once finished. If you are curious about diamond painting but do not want to commit to a large kit, a mini holiday diamond painting ornament like this is a great place to start.
Overall, part four of the Crafting Through the Holidays advent calendar had a great mix of nostalgic, meaningful, and relaxing holiday crafts. The Perler bead ornament brought back childhood memories, the llama and gnome rock became a sweet tribute to my parents, and the button wreath turned into a fun moment with my daughter. The polka dot penguin portrait gave me a chance to revisit a favorite character, while the diamond painting Santa was a sparkly and satisfying way to finish the episode. This was one of the most personal batches of advent calendar crafts so far.
