Expanding Moriah Elizabeth’s Blob Universe

Welcome back to Coco’s Creations! If you’ve been hanging out in the art and crafting community, you’ve probably heard of the art YouTube queen herself, Moriah Elizabeth, and her incredible “Blob Universe.”

For those who might not know, Moriah’s goal is to create 5,000 unique characters that all start out from the exact same blank, white blob form. Since doing that alone would take a lifetime, she created a special kit to enlist other artists in her quest for a Blob Universe takeover!

Today, I’m unboxing the kit and using air-dry clay and paint to transform three blank blobs into some of my very own original characters, complete with fun lore, a few unexpected crafting disasters, and even some hot glue magic.

Here is how I brought these three new friends to life!

1. Eliza: The Leopard Print Elephant 🐆🐘

First up is Eliza, a character I absolutely loved bringing to the Blob Universe!

The Sculpting Process: I started by flattening some clay into large, cute ears and shaping a short little elephant trunk pointing slightly upward (so she doesn’t look sad!). Crafting Tip: If your clay isn’t sticking to the blob, mix a tiny amount of clay with water to create a “slip” (which basically acts as clay glue). It works like a charm!

The Lore: Eliza isn’t just any elephant—she’s a leopard-print elephant! She was actually taken in and raised by a family of leopards. Because of all the love they gave her, she magically developed her own leopard spots. She’s an empath who uses her deep understanding of feelings to help anyone who is feeling sad or alone.

After mixing up the perfect creamy yellow-orange base coat, I used an orange paint marker to add all of her beautiful spots, gave her some eyelashes, and finished her off with Moriah’s incredibly smooth, non-sticky varnish.

2. Bernard & Benny: The Bear and His Bee 🐻🐝

Bernard is a typical bear who absolutely loves honey, but he comes with a tiny sidekick named Benny the bee!

The Sculpting Process: I added two little bear ears, a round tail, and a travel-sized honey pot for Bernard to carry. Since the honey pot was a larger chunk of clay, I scored (roughed up) the surface of the blob first so it would hold tight. I also sculpted a tiny little Benny the bee to sit right on Bernard’s head!

The Lore: Bernard is actually blind. The honey he carries around is magical and temporarily enhances his other senses. But when the magic wears off, Benny acts as his eyes out in the world. In return, Bernard is a comforting presence for Benny, who deals with anxiety and hates being alone. They are the perfect team!

The Honey Trick: To create realistic dripping honey coming out of his pot, I used hot glue! To make it look like actual honey instead of just glue, I mixed a bit of brown and orange paint with some shiny varnish and painted it right over the hot glue drips. It turned out so sweet!

3. Melanie: The Rainbow Drippy Cat 🌈🐱

For our final blob, I wanted to recreate a character from one of my very first videos: Melanie the cat!

The Sculpting Process: Melanie got two classic pointy cat ears and a long, curved tail. By this point, I had really gotten the hang of using the clay and smoothing tools to make her features blend seamlessly into the blob.

The Lore: Melanie is incredibly sweet, but she can be a bit grumpy. She has a bright, warm coat that drips in rainbow colors. Whenever she walks, she leaves a beautiful trail of rainbow paw prints behind her. As a massive art fan, she loves visiting museums—but she is forced to wear silly little booties to keep from getting rainbow paint everywhere, and it completely ruins her vibe!

After painting her base coat and her colorful rainbow drips, I added some juicy white paint highlights to give her drips a 3D effect. Even with her accidentally scary orange eyes, she turned out adorable!
